Praise for student’s hard work!!

Praise for student’s hard work!!

An integral part of LINK19 student’s education is work experience. Most, pre- pandemic accessed work placements in the local and wider community for two days a week.

However, as in March lockdown, currently many employers are unable to accommodate our students due to government restrictions and closures. LINK19 students are in College full time with only those on outdoor placements being able to re-commence their work experience.

Students, Luke, Michael, Phillip and Adam who are on a Construction and Grounds Maintenance pathway are continuing to work at Kent Life, Maidstone, on seasonal work; erecting Santa’s Grotto. Whilst they were working for one day a week only the General Manager asked if the team, which includes our Work Placement Supervisor Ray, could work an additional day. We gladly fulfilled their request and have been able to send an additional student, Michael to help with the work load.

Accolades from Natalie Cox - General Manager  and   Jo Massey - Operations Manager - November 2020

‘The boys worked like Trojans and we are really pleased with how the grotto is coming along. We all said when we were back in the offices how hard the boys worked! ’

‘Can I first start by saying what a tremendous help the volunteers have been to us of late. They have worked non-stop and the difference it has made to our Christmas schedule is amazing!!’

Chatham Historic Dock Yard

Chatham Historic Dock Yard, where students resumed work after the first lockdown, is another supporter of LINK19 work experience placements. Sadly, during the current lockdown the facility has been forced to close until early December. Students Steven and Joseph, supported by our Work Placement Supervisor, Adrian, usually do grounds work; keeping the site clean and tidy. The team also enjoy learning about our Maritime Heritage whilst learning work skills in preparation for the work place.

Accolade from Alison Curzon  -  Community Engagement and Volunteer Manager - November 2020

‘I thank you for your student’s hard work over the last month and I am sorry for it to come to such an abrupt end. What they have achieved in a short space of time is amazing and we will be eager to get you back in as soon as possible’.

B & M Strood

Our students Ben, Tanya and Matthew resumed work at B & M Strood in September. Until the second lockdown they worked very hard assisting with stocking shelves with festive items under the supervision of our Work Placement Supervisor Sue and their B & M Mentor Alishia. Work has now ceased until early December when B & M are keen for the students to assist them in the run up to Christmas.

Ifield Woodland

LINK19 students have been able to continue to work at our school woodland. After the first Lockdown and the advent of the summer which produced prolific growth the woods was in need of some care and attention. With COVID precautions in place six students from LINK19, supported by Work Placement Supervisors, Adrian and ‘Scottie’ and the Woodland Manager, Bryan, worked at the woods every Tuesday.  The team have cleared the guttering and pond of leaves, painted fences, edged paths and done general maintenance to ensure the woods is maintained to its usual high standard.

Well done LINK19 teams - We’re very proud of you!
