Natspec Awards - LINK19 Shortlisted

NATSPEC AWARD

Category - Partnership-working to maximise opportunities / outcomes for students.

KASBAH is registered Charity that offers support services to any person with a physical and/or learning disability. They specialise in supported housing. KASBAH’s Charity shop is managed by their service users. Some of our students transfer to KASBAH premises on supported living programmes and our families use KASBAH for respite care.

As part of our partnership work in the community LINK19 staff manage KASBAH’s Charity shop, from opening up to closure, two days a week together with four students. This initiative began during a visit to LINK19 by a Senior KASBAH Manager who mentioned requiring additional help in her Charity Shop.

LINK19 and Ifield Sixth Form’s Enterprise goods are sold in the shop with 25% of the cost going towards KASBAH so both parties benefit.

LINK19 students have learnt transferrable employability skills in retail. Some have built on previous knowledge. Students have a sense ownership of the shop and take a pride in the work they do which is evidenced by their comments.

LINK19 students are seen in the local community making a difference. They have learnt how to communicate and interact with members of the public and members of KASBAH.
